How Do YOU Lead The Best?
There is a lot of noise out there about how to be a good leader. Much of it focuses on being efficient, productive, and always having the answers.
When I was the executive director of a counseling center for 8 ½ years, I did not have any formal leadership training. All I knew how to do was be myself and hope for the best!
Turns out, knowing who you really are and being your authentic self in your leadership role is best for everyone.
Authentic leadership is a management approach built on self-awareness, genuine transparency, and a strong alignment between core personal values and everyday actions.
Instead of hiding behind a traditional corporate mask, authentic leaders build deep trust, encourage open dialogue, and empower their teams through consistency and honesty.
Authentic leadership matters because it builds trust with employees who can sense disingenuousness easily and need to feel they are safe and can count on you to be who you say you are and do what you say you are going to do.
When employees feel this, they report lower stress and greater job satisfaction. They also feel more free to be innovative because they do not fear making mistakes.
Above all, they remain loyal because they feel true connection to you as the leader and to the mission of the company.
They know they matter.
In this week’s podcast episode, I spoke with Dale Turnbull who is a leadership coach and trainer and founder of, “The Seven Positions of Leadership.”
He stressed that being a great leader is not about changing who you are but rather understanding your strengths and building on those with flexibility and adaptability.
