Ina Garten & Doing What You Love with Cindy Smarsh

Recently, I watched an interview with Ina Garten, best known for her work with food, creating simple recipes and compiling them into cookbooks for the rest of us.

What I didn’t realize about her is, she didn’t start out with this career. Far from it! She worked in a government job for many years, was successful in typical terms, but ultimately wasn’t happy.

She visited a food specialty shop in the Hamptons one weekend and fell instantly in love with it! Even though she knew nothing about the food specialty business or running a business of any kind for that matter, she dove in, bought the place, left her regular job, and never looked back.

The journey was not simple. Her lack of experience caused her pause at times, and she overworked for years to make things happen, but…she was inspired, happy, fulfilled.

She was passionate about what she was doing and that made all the difference.

Research teaches us that the people in the world who live and work expressing their top five passions are the happiest and healthiest people on the planet.

Do you know what you are passionate about?

What really gets you excited in your life?

When do you feel most energized, alive, and engaged?

According to Gallup, seven out of ten Americans are more dissatisfied at work than they have been in over a decade. One of the reasons is, they don’t believe their work matters.

What’s missing? Passion.

George Lucas said, “We are all living in cages with the door wide open.”

If you feel stuck in a life or in work that feels mediocre, perhaps its time for you to remember the cage is open and you can do something about it.

As a Certified Passion Test Facilitator, I move people through a short process to identify their top passions, establish markers for them, and create a plan to live them out personally and professionally.

My clients walk away from that experience more excited, happy, and clear about their next steps and usually can easily begin to live more aligned with who they really are. Their stress levels decrease, they sleep better, and manage conflict more successfully. Life just feels good when we are living and working our passions.

The ripple effect is, we are more fun and relaxed in our relationships with others and are giving back to the world through our authentic gifts and talents, as opposed to doing things we don’t really know how to do or want to do just to get by.

Everyone wins!

Ina said, “Do what you think is fun and then you will be really good at it!”

I agree.

What the world needs more than anything, is people who are engaged, excited, and happy to be alive doing what they are genuinely wired to do.

We need the real you!
