First-Person Leadership at Work

The quickest route to having everything you want is to step into being the leader of your own life, & this is what I call, "First-Person Leadership."

There are several ways to demonstrate First-Person Leadership at work no matter what your role is, so today I thought I would share three:

  1. Take 100% Responsibility for Your Life

  2. Handle Challenges Well

  3. Communicate Effectively

Taking 100% Responsibility for Your Life means:

DON'T:

  • Waste time blaming others for what does or does not happen

  • Waste time complaining about things outside of your control

DO:

  • Focus on where you have the ability to make a difference, which is your own choices, actions, thoughts, ideas, & feelings

  • Constantly build your confidence level as well, all while remaining humble

  • Keep Self-Care/Balance your highest priority ~ Are you overfunctioning?

Handling Challenges Well means:

  • Staying calm under pressure

  • Maintain a Feedback vs. Failure Attitude ("Mistakes are safe.")

  • Redirect to a more productive path

  • Become a problem-solver

  • Let go of anything that becomes an obstacle

  • Remain persistent no matter what

  • Thrive on your own energy

  • Do not hide or give up in trying times

Leaders stay calm under great pressure. They acknowledge a problem has risen & needs to be managed in some way. They direct their energy by asking themselves: "What is my best response to this issue?"

Communicate Effectively means:

  • Listen actively & often

  • Seek to understand before seeking to be understood

  • Speak language of certainty, commitment, & assurance, not tentativeness (& be transparent)

  • Share your clarity of purpose

  • Know what you believe in & be ready to articulate that at any time

  • Be enthusiastic & passionate about what you are involved in

  • Praise others giving credit where credit is due when appropriate

Taking control of your life by demonstrating leadership qualities everywhere you are is empowering & will be confidence-building for you as well. Showing up at work with this drive & a strong skill set for communication & handling challenges is a winning combination.

I have created a system called, The K.I.N.D.N.E.S.S. Code™ to lead you & your organization in creating workplace well-being & collective success. To receive my exclusive guide or to discuss how I can transform your organization, feel free to DM me.
